The Rector of East European University, Professor Kakhaber Lazarashvili, has been appointed as a member of the Working Group on Education Sustainability by the European University Association (EUA) Board.
For the first time in the history of higher education in Georgia, a representative of a Georgian university has been selected to such a strategically significant body as the European University Association (EUA). This milestone marks an important stage in the development of both the higher education system of Georgia and East European University itself.
The EUA’s Working Group on Sustainability brings together leaders of Europe’s foremost universities to jointly create a long-term vision for sustainable development in education—extending beyond the United Nations 2030 Agenda, with a perspective toward 2040. As a member of this group, Professor Kakhaber Lazarashvili will play an active role in shaping strategies for sustainability in education and research, as well as contributing to the development of the EUA “Declaration on the Future of Universities and Sustainability.” Working alongside European rectors and education policy leaders, his engagement will help design transformative strategies for sustainable higher education. The Working Group on Sustainability is chaired by Professor Maurizio Tira, EUA Board Member responsible for sustainability.
This achievement highlights Professor Kakhaber Lazarashvili’s outstanding expertise and leadership in higher education, public health, and youth well-being. It also reaffirms East European University’s growing international recognition as a progressive, innovative institution actively engaged in global processes.
