East European University Delegation at One of Europe’s Oldest Institutions, the University of Coimbra, the University of Coimbra, and Erasmus+ Exchange Program for Students

From March 24 to March 28, a delegation from East European University (EEU) conducted an official visit to the University of Coimbra, Portugal, where EEU undergraduate students from the Psychology and International Relations programs are taking part in the ERASMUS+ exchange program.

The EEU delegation was represented by the Rector, Kakhaber Lazarashvili, the Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences, Ketevan Aptarashvili, and the Head of the International Relations Department, Teona Khachidze.

As part of the visit, the EEU representatives held meetings with the leadership and academic staff of the University of Coimbra. The delegation met with the Vice-Rector, Professor Doutor João Nuno, as well as the Deans and Vice-Deans of the Faculties of Psychology and Educational Sciences, Economics, Medicine, Law, and Science and Technology. Additionally, discussions were held with the Head of the International Relations Unit and its representatives.

Both institutions agreed to expand their partnership and explore new opportunities for collaboration. The meeting outlined future institutional partnership plans for the development of scientific and educational projects, as well as exchange programs in disciplines such as education, law, architecture, business administration, and medicine.

During the visit, the EEU delegation toured the main campus of the University of Coimbra, including its historical buildings (Pateo, Paco das Escolas), the University Tower, Baroque Library, Saint Michael’s Chapel, campuses of the university’s eight faculties, historic examination rooms, and large auditoriums used for dissertation defenses. Additionally, the delegation visited the university’s historic botanical gardens and museums. Founded in 1290, the University of Coimbra is one of the oldest universities in the world. In 2013, UNESCO designated the university as a World Heritage Site, while the city of Coimbra is frequently referred to as the “City of Students.”

Furthermore, members of the EEU delegation met with the EEU students currently studying at the University of Coimbra for the 2024-2025 academic year within the framework of the Erasmus+ mobility program. They gained insights into the students’ academic progress and social integration within the university.

With more than 23000 students from various countries enrolled at the University of Coimbra, EEU students have the unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge, enhance their qualifications, and gain international experience in their respective academic and professional fields. This visit is expected to strengthen EEU’s international integration efforts and facilitate the advancement of institutional cooperation between the universities within the framework of the Erasmus+ program.
